FAQS

How do I know if my home’s wiring needs to be replaced?

If your home is over 25 years old, you experience frequent electrical issues (flickering lights, tripping breakers), or you still have old-style fuse boxes and fabric-insulated wiring, it may be time to consider a rewire.

How much does it cost to install an EV charging point at home?

The cost varies depending on the type of charger and electrical setup, but on average, it ranges from £800 to £1,500. Government grants may be available to help reduce costs.

Can you install outdoor lighting and external power sockets?

Yes, we can install weatherproof outdoor sockets, security lighting, and garden lighting, ensuring they are safely connected to your existing system.

What should I do if I get an electric shock from a socket or appliance?

Turn off the power at the consumer unit immediately and avoid using the affected socket. Call a qualified electrician as soon as possible to inspect for faults.

What’s the difference between a consumer unit and a fuse box?

A fuse box contains old-style fuses, while a consumer unit uses modern circuit breakers and Residual Current Devices (RCDs) for improved safety and ease of resetting.

How long does an EICR (Electrical Installation Condition Report) take, and do I need one?

An EICR usually takes between 3 to 4 hours for a typical home. If you're a landlord, it's legally required every 5 years. Homeowners should also get one periodically to ensure safety.

Are solar panels worth the investment for my home or business?

Solar panels can significantly reduce electricity bills and provide energy independence, especially with battery storage. The payback period varies, but many homeowners see returns within 6 to 10 years.

Do I need an electrician to install a new oven, hob, or shower?

Yes, any high-powered electrical appliance such as an electric shower, induction hob, or built-in oven should be installed by a certified electrician to ensure compliance with safety regulations.

How can I make my home more energy-efficient with smart electrical solutions?

Smart thermostats, LED lighting, motion sensors, and smart plugs can all help reduce energy consumption while improving convenience and security.

What are the signs of an overloaded circuit, and how can I prevent it?

If your circuit breaker frequently trips, appliances overheat, or lights flicker when multiple devices are in use, you may have an overloaded circuit. Adding additional circuits or upgrading your consumer unit can help.
